Labor migration and development

In an attempt to unravel the complex interplay between housing conditions, labour migration, and economic development in Kyrgyzstan, our recent project embarked on an extensive data collection journey. Recognizing the multifaceted nature of these issues, the study was designed to capture a broad spectrum of experiences and perspectives across the country. Central to this initiative was a comprehensive national survey covering 2,400 households. This extensive survey provided invaluable insights into the living conditions, economic challenges, and aspirations of families affected by labour migration, offering a unique window into the everyday realities that shape economic development in Kyrgyzstan.

Complementing the national survey, the project integrated a series of six focus groups conducted in different parts of Kyrgyzstan. These focus groups served as a platform for in-depth discussions, allowing participants from various backgrounds to voice their experiences, concerns, and hopes. The discussions delved into the nuances of housing conditions and the impacts of labour migration on family life and community dynamics. These conversations brought to light the personal stories behind the statistics, enriching our understanding of how economic factors intertwine with social and cultural elements in shaping the lives of Kyrgyzstani citizens.
